Speaking of assignments...

Finished my second project (soundscape) on Friday, but ran out of time before I could post it.

How to lose a tail

After seeing how fun everyone else's sound project were going, I thought it'd be interesting to try to do one as well.
I had an idea I wanted to go for (kind of a alleyway chase scene out of a spy movie or something), but trying to find the desired sound effects were harder than I had anticipated.

A synpopsis for anyone who wasn't sure what was happening in the scene:

1-Footsteps of a man walking down an alley
2-A second set of footsteps is heard
3-The first man stops
4-A half a second later, the second set of footsteps stop
5-The man starts walking again
6-The second set of footsteps start to follow again
7-The man stops for a second time and looks behind himself
8-The second set of footsteps stop again, just a second too late
9-The man, now nervous, begins walking faster
10-The second set of footsteps begin to follow at an increased pace
11-The man, now certain he is being followed, starts into a sprint
12-His pursuer speeds up as well
13-Crashing through some cardboard boxes and garbage cans, the man attempts to lose his pursuer
14-No luck, the chase is still on
15-Bursting through a metal gate, the man makes his way into the street of the city
16-Running across the street, he is almost hit by a truck and a bus
17-The chase continues down the side walk
18-There is a screech of tires, the sound of metal crunching and broken glass
19-Onlookers react in horror
20-While the crowd gathers around the accident, the sound of a pair of shoes is heard walking away, right as police sirens pull up...

[I had actually wanted to find some shoving sounds as well as some voices yelling "Hey!" or "Watch it!" to insert around the #17 mark, as to illustrate the fact that they were now making their way down a pedestrian street... but I couldn't manage to find any that fit the bill. Eventually, I ran out of time, but the project was essentially done, even without that final touch]

  1. Well done. I like the way you listed all of the sound effect we hear in the piece. You did a nice job editing this together. Yes, it can be kind of fun to play with sound in this way.
